The Godalming Navigation
The Godalming Navigation was opened in 1764 and its primary purpose was to serve the quarries and powder mills along the Wey and Tillingbourne valleys, as well as bringing benefits to the town of Godalming. The most important locationson the navigation were the quarries which served Davids Wharf at Millmeads (now the site of Guildford Rowing Club) Stonebridge which was the site of the Gunpowder Wharves and the place where the Wey and Arun Junction Canal began its journey southwards to the River Arun with its link to Portsmouth
